Folk Tale Week

On My Desk

If you’ve been with me for a while, you may have observed that I have something of an obsession with art challenges. What you may not know is that I am also obsessed with fairy tales, myths, legends and old traditions!

So, what I’ve been getting ready for currently is something called Folk Tale Week. Folk Tale Week is an art challenge that celebrates folktales around the world, and takes place November 23rd-29th! What a great combination of two of my very favorite things!

This years prompts are:

1. Birth

2. Ritual

3. Courtship

4. Solstice

5. Death

6. Harvest

7. Dance

I have been brainstorming, and thought it would be fun to share my ideas with you!

Birth: I'm thinking of either Thumbelina or the 7 Ravens.

Ritual: Perhaps a witche's circle, or lighting candles for Diwali.

Courtship: The Frog Prince, or Hades and Persephone

Solstice: This made me think of Stone Henge!

Death: Tomb Sweeping festival, or Dia De Los Muertos

Harvest: Vaisakhi, or maybe the Mid-Autumn Festival

Dance: I forget what it's called, but that one fairy tail where the sisters all go dancing with fairies until their shoes are worn out every night.

If you'd like to see what I come up with in the end, you can follow along on my Instagram page here!
